History of the club

First years (1925 – 1932)

At that time, two football seasons were played in Montenegro during one year (spring and autumn), so the club’s new championship appearance was recorded in October 1928. In the first round, “Zora” defeated the team of “Balšić”, but in the next phase of the competition was eliminated by defeat of Cetinje’s “Lovćen” (2: 3).

The new club quickly became an important part of sports and social life in Podgorica, and it all started from the first club’s meeting in history – friendly match with the older city rival “Balšić” (2: 1). At the first matches of “Zora”, led by Slovenian coach Karlo Vugrinec, at that time red jersey was worn by Musaja Čelebičić, Vaso Vukadinović, Bećo Abdomerović, Vaso Čarapić, Vlado Kirsanov, Đorđe Kešeljević, Vaso Kulić, Blažo Prelević, Duljo Džaferadžović, Blažo Šutulović, Buto Krkanović, Luka Bulatović, Tahir Čelebić, Ilija Ivanović, Milo Pajović, Milovan Radulović, Vuko Vuksanović, Dušan Krcunović, Đorđije Vučeljić, Branko Rajković, Smail Bibezić, Šećir Kapadžić and Arso Marković.

Available historical sources say that “Zora” had its first appearance in the official championship on the 2nd of October 1927. On that day, the club played against „Balšić”in the first round of the Split Sub-Union Championship – Montenegro, eliminating them with a score of 0:3. The very next season (spring 1928), “Zora” met again with “Balšić” at the beginning of the same competition and registers another defeat.

Four Champions titles and First International Tournaments (1932 – 1935)

The first championship title of Montenegro was won in the autumn of 1932. In the first phase of the championship of the Cetinje Sub-Union, “Budućnost” was once again better than “Balšić” (2: 1), and then with the same result triumphed in Nikšić over “Hercegovac” (today’s “Sutjeska”). In the semifinals of the championship in Podgorica,„Gorštak“ was defeated, and on the 6th of November 1932 in Podgorica the final between “Budućnost” and “Lovćen” was scheduled. In one of the best and most exciting matches in pre-war era in Montenegro, Podgoricas’ club celebrated with a score of 6:3, goals from Mitrović (3), Popović, Marković and Milošević, earning the title of champion for the first time in history.

As the champion of the Cetinje Sub-Union, “Budućnost” played its first international meetings in late 1932 and early 1933. “Budućnost” first visited “Vllazni” in Shkoder (1: 1), and then defeated “Tirana” twice (2: 0; 2: 1).

The very next year (spring 1933), “Budućnost” defended the title of champion of the Cetinje Sub-Union. In the season that began in May, the club defeated teams “Balšić” (1-0), “Sutjeska” (7: 1), “Berane” (3: 0), followed by another grand final against „Lovćen“. The first match, played on July 23, 1933 ended without a winner (2: 2), so the decision was postponed by seven days. In the new match, “Budućnost” celebrated 2: 0 and raised the second trophy in club’s history.

Domination of „Budućnost“ continued into the autumn season. After the victories over “Balšić”, “Gorštak” and “Zmaj” (today’s “Iskra”), “Buducnost” met again with “Lovćenom” in the finals. The matches for the decision on the champion happened in 1934, and after the draw at Cetinje (1: 1), “Buducnost” celebrated 1:0 in front of its fans (March 25, 1934), thus winning the third trophy of the champion of the Cetinje football Sub-Union .

The last in a series of four consecutive titles, “Budućnost“ won in 1934. The Podgorica’s squad again had a great season in the championship of the Cetinje Sub-Union – against “Iskra” (5: 1; 1: 1), “Sutjeska” (2: 0; 4: 1) and “Balšić” (5: 0; 2: 1 ). Another final in which the forces weighed “Buducnost” and “Lovcen” again fell to the Podgorics’s club. In the first match,”Buducnost” won with a score of 2: 0, while remaining undefeated in the rematch (1: 1).
